Do you think someone should be sent home if they have TB?!

Question: A coworker came to work knowing that she has a possibility of being infected with TB. Her husband and her came into contact with a man who has now been quarantined due to TB. They just announced today that there is a possibilty she could have either the active or dormant virus. I'm pregnant, and of course, very upset that she was allowed to come to work without knowing her test results. I called me doctor and they want to know her results before testing me (which I'll find out Monday) and if so, then I am to be tested.

She shouldn't have put others in danger like this should she? What are my rights in this? They tried to say that it was no big deal, and not very contagious, and wouldn't hurt my baby! If I get infected, it's a very big deal!

I would complain to your superiors...and go home until you have been tested...this should all be at your work's expense...otherwise, threaten to sue...they are putting your health at risk.

lung TB patient can infect others only if they are expelling TB bacteria[called AFB] in their sputum.such cases sre called open or infective.
sputum, stomach washings or bronchial[lung pipes] washing istested for the AFB to decide the infectivity of the person suffering.
if at risk you may be offered regular monitoring and acourse of INH.this will not harm you or the child.
