meninigitis is an infection of the lining around the brain. I don't think it is always in your body, but several viruses & bacteria can cause an inflammation of this lining called the meninges.

I think you may not have a good idea of what meningitis is. Meningitis simply means: inflammation of the meninges. The meninges are the outer part of the brain. So all Meningitis really means is you have an inflamed brain. There are two types of Meningitis, bacterial, and viral. I would look it up on wikipedia.
