Can you get herpes riding the stationary bike at the gym?!

Question: what else can you catch at the gym?

Answers: what else can you catch at the gym?

The only way you can get gential herpes that way is if the infected person was having an active outbreak (yes, transmisson can occur without an outbreak but it's not as common as people will tell you.) and was riding said bike without any type of protection, meaning clothing around the gential area. Of course, I have NEVER known an gym to allow anyone to ride their equipment naked. (ew, that sounded wrong!)
The things normally caught at gyms are the common garden variety colds/flu's. People are coughing on their hands and the like and touching the equipment. That is why they usually have cleaner products around for you to wipe your machine down before/after you are done working on it.

Good Luck.

The only way would be if somebody was having an active outbreak of it and rode the bike without underpants on!!! (What a sight that congers up in my mind!!!)

Only if you were both nekked. You are more likely to get the flu from touching things at a gym than any kind of STD. Most std's are blood borne, with the exception of the little crawly critters.

Is your gym a nude gym?

The only why you could catch herpes on a stationary bike would be if your riding it naked and the person riding it before you was naked and had an outbreak.

I think the worst thing you have to worry about catching at the gym is a foot fungus in the shower. So make sure that if you shower at the gym you were flip flops in the shower.

no i dont think so
you can catch things in change rooms though

No! You are riding the stationary bike with your pants on, right?
The gym is no more contagious then the market, a closed area with everyone breathing the same area & touching common equipment. The gym just seems dirtier' cause it's stinky from people riding stationary bikes.

No. You can't. The herpes virus only lives outside the body for a few milliseconds before it dies. If you ever believe you've come into contact with it, simply wash your hands with soap and water. Done!

By the way, the Herpes Simplex virus that causes herpes and cold sores is actually a nervous system disorder. People who are carriers can even still donate blood. So, don't worry about that bike seat.
