When you are a diabetic how much do you have to watch what you eat?!

Question: Does it mean you should NEVER eat certain things, or does it mean that you can rarely eat certain things if you plan ahead and still stay under control and be considered to be following the food plan?

If you don`t want to battle diabetes when you are older, you should get yourself going as soon as possible. I follow a very strict diet, and it works for me. But it is extreme. I think you have to 1st follow your Doctors advice, and then eliminate all that is bad for you, and slowly add to the list, until it doesn`t work anymore. I eat no sugar, no chocolate, no meat, and no caffiene. It is what works for me. but you must work at it all the time. Take care of your self now and maybe you can excape this. Good Luck.

Hopefully your blood isn't over 120. You should be on a steady diet. You can eat what ever you want but in small portions. I eat alot of veggies with my dinner. But I still have a small portion of potatoes and meat. There is some candy out there that is sugar free, but be careful sugar alcohol in it. Use splenda, its great in pies and soups, such as apple pies, pumpkin pie. I think the splenda is more sweeter than sugar. So you will have to use your judgement in measurements. If I need something sweet, I will have a some fruit apple, or a small piece of candy. Hope this helps.

It depends on what type of diabetes you have and also how well controlled your diabetes is.

I eat pretty much what I want, but do have to watch my carb intake. I have type 2 diabetes and take a pill to control my blood sugar.

My friend is type 1 (insulin dependent) and can't eat carbs hardly ever. She's not a meat eater, so she lives mostly on vegetables and fish.

If I was more judicious in watching my diet and lost more weight, I could probably get off the medication. But, I like my potatoes!
