You got them from direct skin to skin contact with someone else who had them. Since they are in the genital region, this was probably sexual contact. Anyone you've had sex with recently (like in the past couple of months) probably has them too.
You don't have to go to the doctor.
Go to the pharmacist, and get some permethrin 5% cream. Rub it through your pubes. You might need to treat other body hair as well if you are hairy. Leave it on for 6 to 10 hours. Wash your underwear, towels and sheets in hot water while your're wearing the cream.
Repeat the treatment after a week. Make sure any sexual partners do the same, otherwise you'll just get it back, or someone else will get them.
I never had crabs or lice or even any kind of STD's. I always try to learn as much as I can about stuff like this so I could avoided them. The best way to get rid of them without seeing a doctor is to shave the hair off your body, everywhere, and yes there too.
