Anyone out there have diabetes..i'm struggling?!

Question: okay, so i have had diabetes for 7 years and these past couple years i've really been struggling.
i guess after a while you get so tired of everything and you just want to quit you know? The insulin has been makin me gain weight lately, so i get very few of my shots so it wont, my sugars are never regulated anymore, and i hate going to my doctor appts. cuz i'm just going to hear the same ol stuff all over again.
so i guess what im asking you all is if theres anything i can do to regain the ability to take control of this disease, before its too late.

Yes I hear you!!! It's a royal pain in the butt!! But considering the alternative I'm thinking I'll poke myself 3 times a day, take my meds, watch what I eat. I get sick and tired of it all too!!! But I watched my Mom go blind, go on dialysis, get a pacemaker, and then die--and I dam well won't have my kids watch me do that!! It's hard and it's not fun--but now it's my life, so I will watch what I eat, I will walk everyday, I will go to the doctor every 2 mos. even when I don't want to!! You've obviously got internet sooo----the absolute best magazine I've gotten is "Diabetes Self - Management". They have a web site, great advice and really good recipes!!! Sometimes you just gotta pull yourself up and get on with it!!! Best of luck to you!!!!

In a nutshell, start listening to your doctor. Also, get more educated about your disease. The more you know, the better you'll be able to handle it.

I bought the book Diabetes for Dummies and it's really helped. I also found a great Diabetes website.

Cut down on your carbs, and take your insulin, or u will get very sick. I have had diabetes for 35 yr and yes sometimes I get tired of it, but its part of me, and I have to have the strength to handle it and stay healthy. Ask your Dr. to give u a insulin that doesn't cause weight gain. U now it is very important for your other organs for u to keep your BS in control, and gaining weight is also a sign of the ups and down and not taking the insulin. So u aren't alone, thousands are being diagnosed every yr. Honey I was 16 and back in 1972 I was very alone I thought with a old persons disease, but times have changed and u can always find people with it. Come here often and the alone felling will become less of a burden to u, Debbie

u can always talk to me!!! i'm only 12, and have been struggling too! i had diabetes for 4 years. i was onn normal shots, insulin pumo ( i hated it, i couldnt sleep on my stomach) and now i'm on an insulin pen. i like those better and the needles are very tiny, i have the smallest one, i am overweight, well i'm 5'3 and weigh 130 so i'm normal but almost, and want to lose 10 to 20 lbs, and sometimes i just wanna quite, like i wanan eat something sweet or just wanna go out an hang out with friends, and i have to constantly check my sugar, my friend is really supportive, she knows everything about diabetes and i didnt even teach her she learned by watching me! i call her an diabetic dictionary! so i know how u feel! but remember u always have ur family, and may e someday in the future we will have some more advanced things and we can have surgery or something else that stops diabetes! u never know!

I am so sorry you have diabetes; it's a terrible disease. I was diagnosed 6 months ago but have it successfully under control with diet. Nothing can really be done about your diabetes until you decide you want to take charge; once you make up your mind, ask your doctor to put you in touch with an education program or a dietitian. You know what you need to do - eat right, exercise, check your blood sugar and take your insulin. Otherwise, you will suffer the consequences of this devastating disease. If you work really hard and get it under control again, then you can have an occasional treat. Stay healthy and live long.

I have diabetes 2 and also hypertension and overweight.
I also saw my mom go on dialysis for 2 years, and a close friend got one leg amputed/ then the toes of the other leg before that leg also was amputed. She died shortly after that. She had suffered, for 24 years with diabetes.
After all that, I keep myself in line as I want to be around with both legs, and not go on dialysis. I have to walk/do step climber. Watch what I can eat - I was a potato lover and and pasta, but now I watch myself. I've only been dealing with this for 2 years, I look at the positive view of things.
At least there are many things I can eat, it's not terminal, and I can eat small portions of pasta/potatoes once a month. I thank God and count my blessings - some people have worse things in their lives and I pray for them

I was in your same position a few years ago. I had A1Cs of 11-13 and everything was going awful. Luckily I found the answer to my problems very easily.

In march of 2006 I stopped taking insulin shots and went on the Insulin pump. Thanks to the fact that a machine was regulating my dosing in a precise fashion, and the fact that a machine doesnt forget to give you your shots, my A1Cs went from the above to 6.2. Recently I was able to get the Real Time Continuous Glucose Monitor and my A1Cs went down even further. I am now at 5.7 and loving it with basically no effort.

Most insurances do cover pumps for people, so it should be easy to get one if you let your MD know that you are interested. You can also call the pump companies directly and they can help you out too.

The pump isnt cheap, but it is worth every penny. Plus you will feel 100 times better now that you only need to inject once every 3 days rather than 4-6 times per day. I cant imagine my life without it. Its truly the most amazing thing ever created. It worked for me, and I was the most resistant diabetic there was.

I know it is a bad deal, a tough break that you have diabetes and you have to do stuff everyday that you don't want to. But nothing is going to change that.

The only question now is how are you going to respond to your situation? Are you going to be a weenie and give up and suffer severe consequences in the near future, or are you going to step up and do the right things to take of yourself so you can have a regular, normal, healthy life?

No one else can do anything. It's all up to you.
