Norovirus: I'm terrified at the fact that you can just suddenly vomit. Is it!

Question: Ive heard that the Norovirus first symptoms are feeling sick then suddenly throwing up without you knowing it. Is it true? Do you just have no control?
I'm terrified of catching Norovirus, especially at school, The main reason I don't want to catch it is that I hate not being control, and it would be so humiliating and horrible to suddenly throw up at school withou't having the chance to run to the bathroom. Anyone know exactly what happens? I'd feel so much better knowing that when you catch it, you feel like your going to throw up and you have time to get to the bathroom?

By the way I wash my hands really often know and I never make my hand's go my mouth nose or eyes.

Please help, I'm terrified of this stupid virus.:(

No, it doesn't do that. I have had norovirus, and have spent over 18 years in the medical field.
You do have time to get to the bathroom. A person gets nauseous before. Many don't even vomit- just nagging nausea is present.
Other symptoms that can accompany the nausea are fatigue, fever, and diarrhea.
Don't worry. Also, handwashing is the most effective way to keep from getting any contagious "bugs" out there. You don't have to worry so much any more!!!

oh jebus, that sound AWFUL! is it just some rare thing, or is it something going around at your school? just remember that your immune system's got your back. maybe buy a bottle of purell. I'm a terrible emetophobe, which means fear of vomiting, so that sounds really bad

yes you can vomit suddenly even without a norovirus

It's sort of true, you'd probably have enough time to run out of the room, but it comes on fairly quickly. You'd have to be exposed to someone else who has the virus- you're not going to get it out of the blue.

If you've read the news in the past few months or so, that is the virus that has been going around on cruise ships. It's actually a fairly common virus, but on cruise ships, in tight spaces it runs rampent.

I got on a cruise ship this past summer, and they had just had an outbreak on the last sailing. They constantly bleached things down, gave us hand wipes everywhere we went, and even had some of the restaurants closed down from it. Then it started breaking out on our sailing. It was really scary. They actually had people locked in their rooms with police guarding the door, and they taped the doors up.

Honestly, I really wouldn't worry about it going to school and stuff. It sounds like you are doing a good job by washing your hands and not putting them on your face.

You might also try a tablet called Airborne. It's "supposed" to keep you from getting sick, and I believe it. My whole family got the flu and I took care of them for a week and never got sick myself. I took Airborne the whole time.

You should just be calm about it, don't worry yourself sick!

There is a virus going around..it originated in England..they thousands of people had it over there..I'm pretty sure you're already kinda feeling sick, so you won't be at school anyway..and if you are, i think you have enough time to get to a bathroom, only little kids are the ones getting sick like that, because they don't know their bodies well enough to know they may get sick in a min..don't be afraid of this virus, they say it goes away in a day anyway..if you're meant to get it no amount of washing your hands will stop it..so don't be paranoid
