Why do I have a bruise at my injection site?!

Question: I have been taking 20 units of insulin every night since November and I have never bruised until tonight. What would cause the bruise. I do a different injection site every night. I have been under Dr's care for a year so I dont know much about type 2 diabetes. Thanks to all who answer.

Most likely you went through a blood capillary. I wouldn't worry too much about it, stuff like that will happen.

A bruise is nothing more than bleeding under the skin. Bruises sometimes occur from injections if you stick the needle too deep (into muscle) or if you just happen to hit a capillary. If you are a person that doesn't have much fat, bruising is sometimes hard to avoid. Its nothing to worry about unless other bruises start to appear (in which case something other than the injection is causing the bruises). .

I hope you are pulling back on the plunger a bit- a couple of units- to make sure you aren't hitting a vein. It's possible you grazed one, or even ruptured a small capillary with the injection. Sometimes that just happens. Also take care not to rub the site too hard after injection, as you can do it that way, pressing the insulin into the tissue can cause small capillaries to rupture. Just don't use the site again until the bruise heals completely. It will interfere with insulin absorbtion. You can also bruise if you don't penetrate the skin quickly enough, or if the needle is slightly dulled, or if you didn't get the bevel (the pointy part) rotated correctly. Remember to have bevel up, so that the slenderest part of the tip will penetrate and gradually ease in the remaining diameter. If you had it rotated bevel down, it's more of a flat jab and will sometimes bruise. And of course, if you start seeing more bruises show up, you will need to speak with the doctor.

You Might've just hit a blood vessel and becuase it broke its just like a normal ruise. its hold go away in a few days or so.

I dnt get them too often but they are common though.

you shouldnt be worried at all.

you just have been lucky enough not to hit a blood vessel.

Hope this helped you!

ahh mighta nicked something. probably nothing vital. i get them every now and then, usually during butt shot week. nothing to worry about, but kind of irritating when they rub up against your jeans pockets.
