Health & sanitation question?!

Question: Hi there. My next door neighbour was found dead in his house about a month ago & from the look of him he was there for about 3 weeks before being found. He had no family & hardly any friends so noone is sure whether the house he lived in is his or it was rented form the council.
The problem I am concerned about is that the house has not been cleaned since his death, if he died & was not found for 3 weeks then there is the possibility of disease.
If it was council then they would of cleaned the house & moved in new tenants but would they of done this so close to Christmas? If he owns the house then what happens if it's been left to no family (Mother & father dead, no siblings, no children, no wife)
I am more concerned with the risk of disease & health & santition issues.
Also what can I do to speed up the process of the house beinf properly cleaned & disinfected?

Chase the Council, the Environmental Health department should have had it cleaned in 24 hour
Take NO excuses it needs cleaning and it is the environmental health of your local councils job to get it done

Take not truck with we don't know who owns it
It is there responsibility and they charge the cost after ... by law
( ex Environmental Heath officer !)

Get people to clean it. Like people specialized in cleaning up stuff like this.

Phone the council and ask them about it. They should be able to sort it out.

DOn't worry. IF there were bacteria around (and there surely were), they would not be able to go on without a food source. When they removed his body they took that away. I know it grosses you out, but I see no need to worry about disease.

Get in touch with your local council

do u really want to do that?

you can call ur nearest sanitation center and ask them to sanitize but other than that im not really sure

His house is not your concern. Don't worry, you are not going to catch any diseases from his house.

I dont' think you have anything to be worried about health and sanitation-wise. Yeah, there's body fluids and junk left behind, but also bugs and bacteria that eat such things. When the food source is gone, so are they. (this is so gross)

I also think the guy must have owned the house, and it's tied up legally. If the council (you must be in UK?) is in charge of renting it, they definitely would have cleaned it. It will need to be done professionally, and will probably involve changing out flooring.

I think the post you have here is based on paranoia and fear.

If in the neighbors yard, his dog was dead for 3 weeks, I am sure it would no big deal, but because this was a person, and death is as sure as taxes, you relate to this.

Just let it go, really. There's more cause for concern of what's in your trash bin, than in your neighbors house.

Who is the council? Are you in the UK?? I'm guessing you are so forgive my ignorance as I'm in the US.
People die in their homes and sometimes not found for a while and I've never heard of any disease spread because of it. Even if he was ill with AIDS or something -- you don't get AIDS from that kind of contact (just a for instance) -- most diseases are spread by touching, etc.....don't worry about that. Just using AIDS as a for instance, which is a horrible disease, to relieve your stress level. Just because a person dies, does not mean there is disease present that is communicable.......ya know what I mean? You can't catch a heart attack. As far as the "council" -- I don't know what you mean -- but that's because you are there and I am here.

Unless you intend to move into the house next door you have no need to fear any disease from the now removed dead body. I would be more concerned that the poor guy was dead that long before anyone thought to check up on him. Some neighbours!

i'm in the US too. If he died with a will, then the house may going to S/someone or a charity, etc. You could check to see if that's the case, and if it is, his estate would be responsible for the upkeep.
If he dies without a will in the US, the settlement of the house could drag on for year(s). You'll be surprised to see how long-lost R/relatives show up to claim it.
For the short term You may wish to contact the local health department for guidance.
