Hey i got a problem with my voice box!?!

Question: my voice box gets blocked when i am talking to others.. the air flow stops and speech does not flow.. but it does not happen when i am talking to myself.. and it only happens with a few people and only when i fear that it is going to happen.. today i was wondering why it doesn't happen when i talk to myself.. so i voluntarily tried blocking my voice box and stopped the air flow.. once i did that the i could not speak and the air was blocked.. so i could speak only upon releasing my voice box..

so i am now curious as to why my voice box gets blocked involuntarily when i am talking to others and how should i get help?? who can help me out.. i think i will try speech therapy... you know this has been a big bother and i really need to sort it out!! any advice will be appreciated.. thank you :)

You're pretty smart with your assessment of your fear in talking with some people. Your vocal cord muscles are tightening up due to stress/fear. Of course it doesn't happen when you talk to yourself, because you are not afraid of yourself. The fact that you were able to voluntarily control shutting off or blocking your air flow and not speak, proves that you can do the reverse and learn to RELAX your vocal folds too :) Yes, a speech therapist would be the one to see, if you continue to tighten your vocal cords. Talking to a friend (Jehovah God through Jesus), or counselor can help too. I hope this writing helps you to understand that you can learn to relax and control your voice production or lack of it :)
