Why does it make it difference if they break it the first or fourth time? Besides, hymens are overrated and break for many reasons.
Usually your hymen breaks during the first time of sexual intercourse. It can also break doing many other things such as sports or masturbation/fingering. A guy can't keep from breaking your hymen from intercourse. It just happens. I find it hard to believe what your friend is telling you.
Are you sure your friend didn't mean, "he went further each time so he wouldn't hurt her all at once?"

By way, NOT ALL FEMALES HAVE A HYMEN. Hymens don't break or pop. They stretch and tear. If a guy rams his penis into a female, who might have an intact hymen then it will feel like she is being ravished (popped, cut, etc.).
