During the winter the air gets dry from furnace and I get dry skin and my throat and nose as well. Have him use a humidifier or gargle a couple times a day. Also he might be dehydrated so have him drink lots of water. good luck!

It could likely be sinuses. Allergies can make you cough. I would see a doctor however.

get an xray chest first to rule out any chest infection of tuberculosis chest. cough may be due to infection allergy or other pathology of lungs . cough its self not a diseases its symptom of disease of the lung . its may be he have asthma too he need to get a pulmonary function to be done

sinuses or allergies, just take a Benadryl

The way I have found to work on this kind of cough is to take

2 tbs. Canola Oil it is a cooking oil

No this is no joke he has a dry throat and needs to have a little lotion for it.

Canola Oil is healthy to boot read the label to see and you will even say so.

Assuming you are in the Northern Hemisphere, where it is winter, my bet is that it is because the air in your residence is very dry.
A humidifier will fix this.
If you own a house, put one on the furnace. There are many types, and some are bad.
The "mold wheel" type rotates a fabric disc or cylinder through a water bath and runs warm air in the duct over it.
Cold spray types put tiny particulates of whatever is dissolved in your water into the air which are bad for you.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humidifier
They call the good type the "flow-through" or "biscuit" style. That is the ONLY kind you want to get.

are you sure he doesn't smoke
