If you only smoke a pack a week, is it possible to quit cold-turkey?!

Question: I average one pack every 5 or so days unless people bum them from me then some times i go through 2 packs a week. I used to go through a pack a day and 3 years ago, a pack and a half a day. Last year it was closer to a pack every 3 days so I am making progress.. So I am wondering if I can just give up smoking all together without having side effects since i don't smoke that often...

Yes definitely!! That's great progress... I am confident that 1 over a whole week is not enough to cause any side-effects unless you play mindgames and fool yourself to trick you into going back to smoking. Just stop smoking as of RIGHT NOW! Chug the remainder you have on you and I'll be so happy :) You can do it!! Starting now!!

you could smoke 4 packs a day and quit cold turkey. Use will power.

Yes, it should be easy. After a few days the nicotine is out of your body and the rest of psychological.

You will have some withdrawl anyhow. I quit cold turkey a week ago and am still arguing with myself about it!

I would think so...but I'd try to pinpoint your smoking triggers...smoking that small amount is more of a "habit", I would think...so just make sure you know what triggers your smoking, WHEN you do, and have a plan on what to avoid...and you should be fine.

yea, thats much easier to quit cold turkey than if you were still smoking a pack a day...i quit cold turkey from where youre at and it wasnt too hard, good luck

no.your just building an excuse to not have to ,quit !

Of course you can. I think what you're doing is really smart. The whole going lesser and lesser til its gone. I think eventually you should start two cigerettes a day.

my dad used to smoke almost a pack a day and he quit smoking cold turkey style and during that time, he was really cranky. No matter what.. boxes, packs of cigaretts where all around him since we owned a NY lotto store, but he avoided them And it worked and now he is 5 years smoke free! I believe he started smoking since he was 18 and when he quit he was 45, so yea if he was able to, then FORSURE you can too.
-Good Luck

Side effects.....yes, but keep candy drops or gum available or suckers....it will be the urge to have your hand and mouth busy....Lots of time it is a cue you receive that says "smoke" wheather it be a cup of coffee or the phone etc. be ready....But Know that you can.....

you can shoot 5 grams of heroin into your eyeballs everyday for twenty years and quit one day if you so choose... so yes you can quit smoking cold turkey.

most definitely. but, only if you have decided and are serious about quitting. everyone is lookoing for an 'easy' way to rid themsel\lves of a very powerful addiction. there is nothing that will make you quit until you want to quit. the first two weeKs are t he most diffiiicult but get through them and each week gets easier. drink plenty of water to help rid your body of the toxic chemicals from the cigarettes that are stored in your fat tissue. gum helps wlth t he desire to have something in your mouthl but the truth is, nobody or any pill or gum can make you quit. YOU have to be determined to want cigarettes out of your life. anD, YOU can do it. throw away all your cigarettes, lightes, ashtrays , anything that would let you restart. and just don't buy anymore. it CAN be done,

Sometimes I despair about the anwers people give - but man you couldn't have got such a great heap of answers if you had planned it. Your answerer's have been fantastic.
A couple of points to add to the previous answers:
If you feel like a cig take a few deep breaths & tell yourself you don't want the cig & think about what you can do with the money - say 12 months cost of cigs.
Hope that is of some help. All the best.
