What good are emotions?!
Question:
What good are emotions?
Emotions bring nothing but suffering in the end, wouldn't it be better to just not have any. None of that "its only human" crap, no one really can say what is human characteristics and what isnt
Answers:
We have emotions because evolution has proven them advantageous. Beyond the emotions that help us get along with people, even negative emotions have their usefulness. Fear can give us prudence. Anger can give us determination. Sadness can help us have empathy.
Your premise that emotions bring nothing but suffering is incorrect. That error is an example of black and white thinking, something humans do naturally, because it too has evolutionary advantages. It makes it easier for us to accept some things and reject others, without the confusion of being halfway about it. But the natural way to live and think isn't necessarily the healthiest. Biological evolution only works with the genes that exist and variations from them. Cultural evolution is another whole mechanism for progress. So are the individual experiences of people.
Many people have found ways to make all their emotions valuable. You can choose to learn those ways if you want.
