It has to do with dopamine, a neurotransmitter in your brain. Antipsychotic meds decrease the amount of dopamine, because too much dopamine can cause "mania" or psychosis. Too little dopamine can cause these extrapyramidal side effects. In fact, people with Parkinson's disease have too little dopamine, and their rigid movement problems are related to this.
