Non-medicinal treatment of adult ADD?!
Question:
Non-medicinal treatment of adult ADD?
I Think I have ADD, it would explain the continuous conflict, poor grade, 15,000 freakin jobs, roomates, cities, houses i've lived in, im going to see my dr in a few weeks, but im not a huge fan of taking mind-altering drugs. Does anybody know foods to eat/avoid, exercises that may help, I'd like to try non-med first
Answers:
Im not really qualified to give any medical advice but I have it too. I have found that a psychiatrist will spend much more time diagnosing you and knows more about ADD medications than most doctors.
When it gets really bad I drink a ton of caffeine, I don't really think thats its any better than a prescription drug though. Stimulants work for ADD in a lot of people.
Hard cardio exercise also worked for me.
You can do anything that keeps your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes.
I felt like you did and had a really hard time taking anything that would alter my mood. Eventually I had to and Im really glad I did.
The drugs do have some side effects, but in me thay didn't last more than a day or two. I take welbutrin for depression and it has stimulant effects that help with ADD.
I think I allowed myself to suffer more than normal because I hated the idea of taking drugs. (I didn't have a problem self medicating with alcohol though for some reason) Before that I took stratera but the side effects were severe in my case and I quit taking it.
Good luck. Hope things go well for you.
