Why can't I get to sleep?

Lately (the past 4 or so days) I've been having an awful lot of trouble getting to sleep. My mind just keeps going on and on, thinking about summer work and possible situations with my friends and family. As I am a student on summer vacation, I most often do not go to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning, but when I get to bed it takes atleast hours to get to where I can sleep. I try to get myself up at noon to try to regulate my sleep pattern (meaning to get the time I go to sleep to a more reasonable time) but it doesn't seem to help at all.

Another thing that may have something to do with it is the fact that I had my wisdom teeth removed last thursday (the 28th) and have been taking penicillin since then.

Just a few tips that I learned, and have helped me sleep more soundly:
*Watch your caffeine and sugar intake.
*Don't go to bed on an empty stomach. Try having a little snack about 2 hours before bed.
*Try putting on some soft music.
*Try taking a warm bath with lavendar bubble bath/oil: it will help your muscles relax so you won't be so tense and wound up.

If none of this helps, maybe consider taking a natural herbal supplement to aid sleep. But only use this as a last resort, because there is always a risk of becoming dependant on almost any sleeping pill.
