I want to go off Lexapro but i am really scared of the side effects. Can anyone !

Question:

I want to go off Lexapro but i am really scared of the side effects. Can anyone help?

i heard the side effects of Lexapro withdrawal are awful, and i heard that your doctor may put you on valium or xanax to help counteract with the symptoms, has anyone been in a similar situation and could you help me out with this? thanks

Answers:

First of all I would check with your doctor before you go off any drug because your body being off the drug could be a problem.

I was on Lexapro for a considerable amount of time but the doctor took me off because I am Bipolar II and the effect was counterproductive. First I went from taking 20mg to 10mg for a week or so and then we simply discontinued it. Other than maybe a headache I don't recall any weird side effects of coming off the drug.

The only reason I can think of that the doctor might prescribe xanax when going off Lexapro in the Lexapro treats both depression and anxiety so it is possible if you have anxiety issues that they could be a little worse. I didn't have any terrible physical symptoms though.

If you have a good relationship with your doctor you can work to make a plan so that going off Lexapro goes smoothly.
