Need help with my brother...?!

Question:

Need help with my brother...?

My brother and I have a strong family history of anxiety and depression on both sides. I am currently on medication and feel much better. The problem is that my brother has decided to "self-medicate" rather than talk to a doctor. I know that I cannot force him to do something that he doesn't want to do, but I was hoping for suggestions on how to talk to him about it. He thinks that it is like admitting a weakness rather than being treated for an illness.

Answers:

I know someone who is manic. He had been treated for depression for many years. Nothing seemed to work for him. He stopped taking his meds and started to self medicate. A few months back he tried to kill himself. He almost succeeded. Now he is on a new regime and it seems to be working. You need to find any way that you can to get your brother to see a doctor. It's a sign of strength to ask for help not a sign of weakness. Good luck.
