i have memories of things that never happened?!

Question: I have memories of things that never happened?
this seriously confuses me. at first i thought it was just my mind taking past information and making me think i had experienced it. Like when i said "didn't grandma used to have black hair? when did she dye it?" when she hadn't had black hair years before i was even born. also, i remembered that we once had chickens, but when i asked my mom she told me that when SHE was a kid she had them, but i had never lived with them.

Now, this is the part that really weirds me out. i went to visit my cousin in New Mexico- a place i have NEVER been before[i asked all my family members that would know]. When i was there, i met this girl a few years younger then me. I vividly remembered going to a party with her where someone bit her and she had to be taken to the doctor the next day. i mentioned this to her, and she told me that in Canada [that's where she was from] that had happened. then she asked how i knew that and i really had no answer[i mean, what do i say in that situation?!]

Does ANYONE know why i'm having these "memories"?

That's not uncommon. Research has shown that our memories are not as exact as we think they are.

People often confuse something they heard about with something they remember directly experiencing. Researchers are easily able to induce this. They will show you a video and then ask about what the guy in the green hat was eating. Many people will start remembering the guy's hat as green when it was not, and they are clear in their "memory" of the green hat.

Another example was a study that asked people about how they felt when they saw a video on the news of an airplane crashing into a building in the Netherlands (this was before 9/11). The crash was an accident, and nobody caught it on video. Yet many people described how they felt when they saw the plane about to strike the building and striking the building on the news, something they could not have actually seen.

One researcher in this area, Elizabeth Loftus got into the research because of her own experience. Her mother had died when Dr. Loftus was young. A family member told her about how she was at home with her dead mother for hours before someone discovered them. Then she started having memories of crying and being next to her mother's body. Then the family member told her that she had confused her with her sister. Dr. Loftus was not home at the time of her mother's death.

It is possible that you are psychic, not psychotic, but psychic. This ability does exist and many people are not willing to state they do have. There is also extrasensory perception also which people do not admit to.

If you do feel that this might be something that might need the attention of a mental health professional though, make an appointment with a therapist and explore this with that professional.

thats a new one
i never heard that one before
well about the chikens thing mabye when you were younger your mother told you stories about when she had chickens and you turned it into a memroy of your own somehow
and for the grandmother thing you might have seen phoittos as a baby and turned that int a memery to the mind works in misteriuse ways
and for the last one it is quit strange is it possible that you heard about the incident frm somewhere els??

you might have been told them when you were younger and just forgot about them and they are just now coming back or for some reason you were there and for some reason something happened and people don't want you to know. i opt for the first one. it is better that way.

No clue, either your bsing it, or idk, its just idk. I'm sure some nutcase on here will find some way or another of explaining this to you.

If it never happened , it's a dream or nightmare , not a memory.

Wow! That's so creepy/cool! Sorry this isn't really answering your question.. but I think you should go talk to someone about it.

maybe you watch televison much esp movies

i think this is cool..i think it is positive, not negative like u think..i think it has to do with past lives (idk if u believe in such stuff, but i do)..u must have known this people b4 and here u r again with them..or u kinda r a watcher of d past (this is very possible),u c what has really happened in d past, mayb u have dreams about it and u don't remember them, and when they happen u think they r memories..i would suggest u to go 2 a good psychic or ask a knowledgeable person,so u can get more clarified

you are probably having all these memories because you had a past life. You don't have to believe on what I say but mostly everyone had a past life. Just like me, I was a guy in my past life, I remember where I die. Now I am a girl. The people that are close to you are there for one reason, because they were so important to you in past life you have them here with you.

Past life regression is a technique that uses hypnosis or nonhypnotic techniques to recover what practitioners believe are memories of past lives or incarnations, though others regard them as fantasies or delusions. Past life regression is typically undertaken either in pursuit of a spiritual experience, or in a psychotherapeutic setting. Most advocates loosely adhere to beliefs about reincarnation, though religious traditions that incorporate reincarnation generally do not include the idea of repressed memories of past lives.

The technique used during past life regression involves the subject answering a series of questions while hypnotized to reveal identity and events of alleged past lives, a method similar to that used in recovered memory therapy and one that similarly misrepresents memory as a faithful recording of previous events rather than a constructed set of recollections. The use of hypnosis and suggestive questions makes the subject particularly likely to hold distorted or false memories. The source of the memories is more likely cryptomnesia and confabulations that combine past experiences, knowledge, imagination and suggestion or guidance from the hypnotist than recall of a previous existence. Once created, the memories are indistinguishable from memories based on events that occurred during the subject's life. Memories reported during past life regression have been investigated, and revealed historical inaccuracies that are easily explained through a basic knowledge of history, elements of popular culture or books that discuss historical events. Experiments with subjects undergoing past life regression indicate that a belief in reincarnation and suggestions by the hypnotist are the two most important factors regarding the contents of memories reported.

hope this helps you out :D
