Why do I always sleep?!

Question: Why do I always sleep?
I'm a 16 yo girl.
I dont really think I'm depressed, im acually happier right now then I've been before.

I get about 6 or 7 hours of sleep at night & when I get home from school I take about a 3 hour nap.

This bugs me because I don't get any exercise and I need to lose a little weight.

It's been so beautiful outside and I wanna get out and do stuff but I'm just too tired!

I sometimes hang out with friends after school but I don't really like being around too many other people so I don't like "after school activities" just hanging out with 1 friend every other weekend is good social time for me.

I've also sort of noticed I havnt been doing what I used to.
I would always play guitar and piano and I dont do that much anymore.
I basically get up, go to school, come home and nap, eat dinner, watch a little tv, shower, then go to bed. And I do that everyday.

Anyone know whats wrong with me?
I really don't think I'm depressed because even though I'm not doing alot im still happier than I was a year ago, especally at school.

Because your body is tired. You need 8 to 9 hours of sleep. YOur body is trying to catch up with the lack of sleep by naps. Nobody knows why people need sleep. But we do know that is vital for our health.

You simply don't have energy. Go to bed early.

You first have to rule out anemia. There could easily be a physical problem here. If that comes up negative, you might have some depression, but that is a big might. Doctor time.

Maybe try talking to your mom about your symptoms. It may be best to make an appointment with your Physician so he/she can check you out medically and mentally to see what is going on.

You might have mono. Or you might just be tired.

Go to a doctor as soon as possible.

Maybe your body just needs that much sleep to function.

Hello my dear. I hear this complaint often, and you are smart to think of depression first. Even though you may feel happy, you could be experiencing a milder form of depression called dysthymia. It could explain the sleep disorder plus your depot of not being interested in things you used to do (which is one of he first ways mild depression can present itself, as lack of interest in enjoyable activities).
Another possibility is sleep apnea. Although it usually affects overweight adults, it is a very common culprit in robbing sleep from all ages, even if you link you have slept he required hours for a good night's sleep for your age.
On other possibility is drugs. First, the legal kind: started any new medication recently? One type of birth control caused me to sleep excessively. Second: the illegal kind. I've smoked my fair share of stuff back in the day. It can make you sleep too much, to be sure, especially if it's cut with something sedative.
I hope some of this was helpful.

me thinks ye dost protest to much. you keep repeating that you are not depressed which makes me think that along with other things that you have written that you are depressed. the more you sleep and don't exercise the more tired you are going to be. you need to see your regular doctor ofor a check up. while there tell him what you have stated here. i mention your regular doctor because there could be other problems going on that could make you depressed and tired other than mental illness. listen to and follow your doctors advice.
