Question: I have a ticket for a concert but i suffer with bad panic attacks would i be alright to go?
i don't really want to blow in to a paper bag in front of a lot of people
Answers:
Does the paper bag really even work? hah...
yeah you should go, try and think about you having a kickass time, and not focus on all the other judgmental skrew heads
panic attacks are the result of bad learned behaviors, like suppose this or what if this happens, the key is to do the opposite like I'm so excited about the concert, and what an enjoyable time this is going to be then put a smile on and GO!, if while your their you panic just look around at all the people have a great time and say to yourself, if they can have a great time so can I
then say panic, "bring it on" and if it happens then say to the panic feelings
"is that the best you can do" try this for a week
The paper bag thing doesn't really work. I've had panic attacks for a long time. One of the best ways to calm yourself is to have something small in your pocket. I keep a small rock with me. When I feel panic starting I put my hand in my pocket and concentrate on how the rock feels. I think about the smooth parts and the rough parts, really concentrate. It's very hard for the brain to think about 2 things at the same time.
About the breathing, one of the best ways to regulate your breathing is singing. You can't shallow breath or hyperventilate while singing. Even talking will regulate your breathing.
Remember your body can't tell the difference between happy excitement and anxiety. You need to keep reminding yourself that, what you are feeling is the excitement of going to the concert.
You are stronger than your panic. Go and have a good time. You will feel a lot stronger by going and you will prove to yourself that you can do anything that you want to and panic doesn't control you.
