Why can't I concentrate?!

Question: Why can't I concentrate?

I'm doing pretty bad in school, I want to good but I really can't. I end up having to ask my teacher the same question 4-6 times, because everytime they explain something it is as if I'm just not even in my body. When I am forced to read a book I don't want to read, I have to read the same page about 3 times (sometimes). My mother had very bad comprehension and she said along with her whole family, But I don't think it's genetic.

When I try to focus on schoolwork, or anything that doesn't interest me for that matter, I just can't do it!!! I don't think I'm lazy because if I want something I can snap into shape and work towards that, but no matter what tactic I try, or how I try to trick myself, I can not make schoolwork interesting.

I got very bad grades, I need to snap into shape but I can't and even though I BARELY passed last year, they put me in all advance classes this year and won't switch me out. I mean literally I should of been held back but wasn't and now I think I'm going to.

What is causing this? Why can't I focus?

There are many reasons. Like you said, you r not interested in what u r learning. Or you are tired. Or easy to get distracted? Not enough sugar in your blood? No energy?
Maybe u r trying to hard. Its impossible to be concentrated all day. A person can only be focused 20 mins. After learning, you should take some small breaks.

your poor focus is because you are not interested in the material. try talking to people about what you are reading as this will make you find it easier to concentrate on it
