Has anyone experienced treatment resistant depression....?!

Question: Has anyone experienced treatment resistant depression....?
Nothing has helped to lift my depression. Has anyone experienced a true treatment resistant depression; and if so, what did you do?

Answers:

I have treatment resistant depression. I did ECT (electronic shock therapy) and it didn't help at all, in fact it messed up my memory. So I would not recommend that.

My psychiatrist who is very good finally referred me to a very well-known psychiatrist in the United States. Right now we are trying his recommendations, which were different combination of meds plus supplements. I don't have the answer because I'm still in the process of getting better, but I have met people who struggled for a long time but finally something clicked.

One lady finally found a weird combination that just did the trick. I really do believe that there is a medcation and/or combination that will help me, I just have to keep trying. I have found two medications that help some so right now we are working on helping those meds to work better, tweaking and adding things to see if I can get more results. For example, they are adding Abilify to other anti-depressants and it is supposed to help them work better.

They are also in the process of researching "transcranial magnetic stimulation" for treatment resistant depression. My psych. told me of two of his patients that responded miraculously to this new treatment, but it is expensive and insurance does't cover it. I don't know much about it, but perhaps you could do some research.

So perhaps it's time for you to get a second opinion and go see a psych. that specializes in treatment resistant depression. I still have hope that I can get better, and I believe that for you, but I'm sorry I don't have the answers; you are not alone.

When all else fails, there is still electro-shock-therapy in the hospital.

I know a person who was cured.
