I ran out of my anti-psychotic meds and I think I'm getting withdrawals?!

Question: I ran out of my anti-psychotic meds and I think I'm getting withdrawals?
On Sunday I noticed I ran out of my Fanapt by taking the last one. Monday was a holiday so I couldn't call my psychiatrist..I didn't do it yesterday either, and I already had an appointment with him for this Friday. Should I wait? Today is day 2 without Fanapt and I feel really nauseous and jumpy and have twitched a bit. My chest kind of hurts, too. I've only been on Fanapt for about a month, the pills I were taking came in sample boxes so I don't have a prescription. But they were working very well. Are these symptoms because I stopped taking the Fanapt? Is it going to get worse? What should I do? If I call my doctor do you think he could call my local pharmacy and send them a prescription or something? I'm in the U.S. by the way.

Answers:

It does sound like you are having withdrawal symptoms from the lack of taking medication. You need to call your doctor and inform him/her that you have ran out of the sample anti-psychotic medication and that you are experiencing withdrawal side-effects. Your doctor will be able to tell you whether or not he can call you in something to your pharmacy before your next appointment. Most likely if you tell him the medicine was working for you he will end up prescribing it.

If you are experiencing chest pain please call your doctor immediately. Chest pains are serious and should be taken care of immediately.

with drawl symptoms, perfectly normal, you could wait it out till you get a refill or go without the pills and try to get back to normal on your own, this would take a lot of determination and changes in behaviour but it can be done

Call your doc and get a prescription in right away. You could be getting withdrawls. Your not supposed to lapse on any anti anxiety or anti psychotic meds.

Withdrawal usually starts a couple days after you stop taking it and can be a bitlike having the stomach flu... you should not wait until Friday... give him a call ASAP.

Is it an opiate? If so take immodium. Loperamide is a low dose opioid that helps.
