VERY afraid of storms?!

Question: VERY afraid of storms?
When i was young i experienced some very bad storms. one storm i was in was hit by a tornado. about 4-5 times all the windows in my house were shattered by giant hail. Have had houses next to mine COMPLETELY destroyed by wind, as in they were just a pile of rubble. Have been flooded out by storms about 2 times.

Now every time there is a storm im basically curled into a ball deathly afraid of the storm. ive even tried to face my fear and went outside during a storm and basically i was so freaked out i ran inside and cried. I know that most storms arnt anything to fear but im still afraid. is there ANYTHING i can do to get over this

My SO's brother has a similar problem.

He has a prescription for Xanax. He doesn't take it.

Xanax is made to help you through an anxiety attack. It doesn't stay in your system for long, so if you get it prescribed as needed, you don't feel drugged all of the time.

Otherwise, the best thing you can do for yourself is create a safe place to be in during a storm (not against the storm, against your own mind). Surround yourself with comforting and familiar things and just keep telling yourself that you will be okay.

your storm phobia is quite common
you need to be gradually desensitised
a big dose of valium will help for the next storm

Honestly, you might want to try seeing someone about your phobia.
