Depression problem....?!

Question: Depression problem....?
Please read on, any answers would be much appreciated, thanks.

I am so fed up of everything. I've been depressed for nearly 8 months now. I'm finding it hard to cope with life and I just want things to go back to the way they were.

I cry, nearly every day. I isolate myself from family / friends and I fear I will lose my best friend if I continue to be the way I am.

I should go the my GP to sort things out once and for all but I'm too scared :-(

Work is getting me down too, I wish I could leave now....I can't though as I need the money. Only a few people know how I feel and I can hardly talk about it, I just cover my feelings up - I'm lying to my family and I don't want to do it anymore.

When does it end? Will I ever be happy again? I miss the days of having a laugh and being my usual cheery self. I'm just down it the dumps and I've had enough now.

What can I do to make myself feel better? Does talking about it really help? What are the chances this will get better if I don't go see someone? I'm petrified......

Thank you, any answers would be muchly appreciated xx

P.S. I did post this earlier today, but had no responses - please, can you suggest anything? Am starting to think there is no point and giving up on everything. I just want to be happy :-(

Answers:

Ok. First of all, hang in there. It will get better but you have to help it to. I was depressed myself on and off and of varying severities for around the last 4 years. I'm a lot better now, but still have some moments that I just want things to end. What Im trying top say is that there is no quick fix, it does take time.
Right well, yes talking about it does really help. I have a very close friend, shes quite a bit older that me and has to take medication for her depression. I talk to her all the time even about the really small things that dont seem to have any relevence at all. I helps me to get every thing off my chest and she encourages me to stick with it and evrything will be ok.
If you could talk to your friend or someone close to you the way I do with my friend, I can garentee you will start to feel better soon. But I know what its like trying to talk when you feel shut off, but this is the first big move you should make. I promise you wont regret it.
My friend, after about a year of being really close and her helping me, talked to me about going to a doctor. She came with me and its really helped. There is absolutely nothing to be scared of. i hated the idea of going to a doctor and i became really sick and anctious about it. They will talk to you about whats going on, possibly take blood tests to check hormone levels and get you to fill out a questionare.
Always, always, try to things that make you laugh!! Do something you love doing, that relieves stress. Meditation, or burning oils, or art works really well for me. Also listening to crazy upbeat music. Funny parodys are awesome :). Im sorry this reply is so long, but this is my experience and I hope that reading about me and what I have done to feel better will encourage you!!!. Good luck and fill your life with colours and smiles!!! xoxo

Be a kid again:)
Drink chocolate milk
Watch cartoons
I swear it works.

If you do not want to go to your GP, then find look up psychologist or psychiatrist in the yellow pages and make an appointment.

Since they are pricey (not in the bigger picture - because your mental health is worth every penny!), you should prepare yourself a little with some self reflection:

Think deeply and thoroughly about and write down

1. when you know you were last feeling happy
2. if there was anything that you can think off that happened and got you to feel unhappy or listless for the first time
3. are there times you feel more down than others and what are those times
4. do you like the work that you are doing and if not what would you like to do if you had a choice
5. what are you family circumstances (single, married etc) and are how do you feel about them

If any of these answers that you find already give you an idea about what might cause it, you can start working on it already. To have a quicker result while you are working on it, you should go to either of these professionals, they may prescribe you with some type of drug to help you through a bad patch

I had the same problem.

First of all you must start with making the right choices. When you get up in the morning, decide that you WILL be happy today, don't allow things to fill your mind and get you down.

I suggest you get some exercise and sunlight, find a hobby. Get plenty of sleep.

Talking to someone is a great idea. Ask a close friend if he/she is willing to listen and just talk.

If you want to talk about it in more detail, I will be more than glad to help you.

PS. If anyone else is feeling down and wants to talk, feel free to send me an email. I know where you guys are coming from.

:o)

I have been exactly where you are now! Believe it or not, excersize helps. Getting out and taking a walk in nature always lifts the spirits, unless of course you live in the concrete jungle. Sounds to be like you indeed have depression symptoms, and medicines from your doctor ,and/or therapy WILL help. That chances it will get better on its own is nonexistant. SOME can take walks, and try...but that darn cloud of sadness follows you everywhere. So now, decide to live with this for life...or GET HELP NOW. For Me, we had to try MANY combinations of medicines before I found out what combo works and it did take YEARS to find the right combo, but there is help out there for you,if you just take it! Good Luck!
