Answers:

antipsychotics are among the most dangerous meds out there - they cause severe harm to the body and brain, which is dose dependent. these drugs COMMONLY cause massive weight gain, diabetes, high cholesterol and triglycerides, and with long term use, tardive dyskenesia. (almost everyone who takes antipsychotics long term will get this eventually, so then you will look like a freak. some people do get it after short term use, but that is rare). Oh, and some antipsychotics cause heartbeat abnormalities. Now it is shown that antipsychotics will shrink your brain over time.

antipsychotics used to be reserved for schizophrenia only, because they are so harmful. for awhile, the drug companies spun a story that the newer atypical antipsychotics were safer and more effective than the old thorazine and haldol, but it has turned ou they just have different problems, and when non-drug company paid people do research, the so-called advantage of atypicals disappeared. they don't work better than the old drugs.

anyway, it is better for you to learn how to control your anxiety by yourself. the xanax will only work for a little while and then its effects will wear off. it is also likely to cause memory problems, and for some people, the drug can cause aggression or disinhibited behavior, leading to relationship problems. (in my case, I was kicking holes in the walls etc. and arguing all the time - it was ativan, a similar drug)

see a therapist, and also there are self help books about anxiety. I find exercise, hot baths, and distracting myself when I ruminate over anxious things to be helpful.

good luck with getting the lyme disease under control.

PS you say your therapist gave you these pills - damn, therapists can hand out xanax and seroquel now?! and did this thearapist tell you you should get checked regularly for diabetes and cholesterol etc. while you take seroquel? Most therapists are not very much in favor of these meds. medicare won't even cover xanax, by law, because it is so addictive.
