PTSD and Therapy is this normal?!
Question: PTSD and Therapy is this normal!?
I was diagnosed with PTSD 3 yrs ago due to childhood abuse!. I started seeing a new therapist about 3 months ago!. She never wants to discuss my past!. Instead I am supposed to start each day with a smile and what can I do today to make today great!. I still suffer from severe flashbacks and nightmares!. I want to heal not just block it out like I did for the first 38 yrs!. Is this normal therapy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am wondering if she is the right one for you, sounds like she doesn't have any experience in treating trauma related conditions!.Tell her your concerns about her approaches in your therapy and explain to her you are still experiencing the flashbacks and nightmares and her avoiding the topics of discussing the past is interfering with the present!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I recommend changing therapist now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
No, this is not normal!. Every therapist has their own "methods" of treatment, but I've never heard of this!. Most, if not all therapists, will ask you about your past because it helps them to understand why you are the way you are and what's going on for you now!. And if you are open to discussing your past, then she should definitely be there to listen and help you along the way!. Talking about it is often painful, but it's also a big step of the healing process!. She's not a good therapist for your needs and you should find a new one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
