If you had to work your way up to a certain dosage of meds then usually you're suppose to work your way down at the same rate otherwise it can make you feel loopy and physically/mentally uncomfortable!. Don't let them fool you, unless you have some serious issues you likely know better what you need then the doctors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a CCMA

There are no real doctors here!.!.
You should NEVER stop your meds without the consent of a physician
No this does not mean you do not need them as meds will stay in your system for several months that is one reason that no one notices and as another contributor said "No one is Looking" meaning they are not even paying attention to what is happening with youWww@Answer-Health@Com

You never needed the medication in the first place; it all depends on what you eat!. Companies of food industries put so much crap into their food's ingredients, that it can screw with your body and force you to go to a doctor and take meds!.

Anyway getting to your question!.!.!.

Most anti-depressients have a slight neurotoxin effect to the brain; that means, if you keep taking your medication then your immune system and brain will think that you are dependent on this medication to survive!. HOWEVER, if you STOP taking it, then your brain will tell your body that something is wrong and you'll feel like you want more and more of your meds!.

So yes, you don't need those meds!. If you can make it past the addiction of this drug, then you'll be fine in no time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi, people who say schitzos only need meds are very ignorant!.
it is best you see your doctor about this situation, because sometimes you wont see or realise a change in yourself for a while!. they say however long it took for your meds to work is the amount of time it will take for you to go back to yourself after stopping!.
people wonr notice on the outside because its hard to notice a person that is going back into a depression slump!.
Its best you go back to your doctor and discuss this, as with some meds you need to be weened off them gradually as by just stopping can make you ill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on your diagnosis!.

If it was simple depression, it may have been "situational depression" and you may not need the meds anymore!. However, a "cold turkey" stop, can sometimes be problematic!.

If it was for chronic, or severe depression, with suicidal ideation, then a recurrence might be be quite nasty, and unannounced before it recurs!. That's a bad thing!.

If the diagnosis was for any other disorder, such as anxiety, panic, obsessive/compulsive behavior, schizophrenia, or borderline personality disorder, then you need to talk this over with your physician very carefully!.!.!.and very soon!.

Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not a doctor but I play one sometimes in the bedroom!.

My mother is bipolar!.

She doesn't think she needs her meds either!.

She does!. She definitely does!.

What is it that you are taking them for, and be specific

Edit: OK so you are tking them for post partum depression!?
So there is a baby involved!. Do you think it is a good idea to take a chance with something like this!?

Go talk with your doctor!. They will be able to decide if you are better!.
Why take the chance that you may have a relapse!?
The mind is a very powerful thing!. It is what let's you know what is real and what is not!.
If there is a malfuntion because of hormones or for whatever reason the lines between real and imagined get blurred!.

You could hurt yourself or your baby and not even realize what you are doing!.

I personally think that medications are prescribed too often!.

In this case you should talk with your doc or a new doc to see if your mind is right!.

You admit you had PPD!. You are admitting you had/have an issue!. Do you think you should be the person deciding if the meds are still needed, really!?

What would you tell your best friend to do in this same situation!?
What would you tell someone who asked the question on yahoo answers!?
You would tell them to see their doctor!. Wouldn't you!?
The heading of this question requested a doctor's opinion!.

Go see your doctor and let them decide!.

Edit2: He won't put you back in the hospital if you are better, and you are better, right!?

If this doctor freaks you out get a different one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The most common cause of depression is lack of potassium!. Its extremely important, and the majority of us dont get nearly enough!. Only ignorant doctors would give someone a antidepressant without a blood test first to check potassium levels!. Potassium is so important that when someone with a deficiency takes a EKG, it completely changes their brain waves, Especially T waves, which are responsible for the heart taking in blood before a beat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not a doctor, but I am bipolar and also stopped my meds because I just didn't want to be medicated!. Everything was fine for a few weeks, because those drugs are meant to stay in your system for sometime, but then after a while I started to have my mood swings, anger issues, etc!. Go to your doctor because you may not need them, but chances are you do!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am not a doctor and have no professional background in medicine, but some medications have side effects when you stop taking them, even if nobody sees any change in you emotionaly there may be negative changes in you phisically!. before stopping any medication always consult your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No one knows u are on long term medication right!? So how would they notice any change in u BUT only u yourself are conscious about it!. I think it really add on some stress to it!. U should continue seeing the doc, they will slowly cut down the dosage then finally decided when to stop the med!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I may not be a doctor, But i know that if your on any medication that needs to be taken, you CANT stop taking it!. No one may have noticed a change yet, but you never know!. Keep taking your meds!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am not for anyone taking meds unless it will save their life!. Depression meds only cure you temporarily!. Stop taking them and move somewhere your not used to being depressed in!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Only schizos need meds!. Everyone is depressed!. And everyone doesn't take meds!. So obviously not!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They didn't notice because they didn't look!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well!.!.!.!.!. you should probably take them until you see your doctor!. But that's really good if you think they work!!!! Good luck!!!
