Being depressed is a weakness?!

Question: Being depressed is a weakness!?
Yes or no, please give your reasons!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
NO it is not!.

Not necessarily; A person who suffers from depression can not necessarily "make" themselves feel better!. As some suggest the individual simply "get over it" or "be positive!."
In part, it IS a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes such a depressive mood or episode but there are always other contributing factors!. Death of a loved one, financial trouble; Loss of a job, home, friend, family, significant other, Loss of the individuals support system and so on and so on down the list!.

Most people suffer depressive episodes in their lives at least once, but the severity of the episode varies greatly individually (person to person); but chronic or clinical depression can most certainly be a hindrance to the individual of whom is suffering from it!.
It goes deeper than mood or outlook, and must be treated addressing the emotional (and psychological) concerns as well as the chemical imbalance!.

There are other factors also that can trigger a "depressive episode" insofar as bringing about an imbalance: poor diet, (and/or "eating issues") lack of sleep, lack of exercise, use of tobacco or alcohol, or substance abuse (drugs) or perhaps a long term illness or the exposure to extreme trauma and et cetera!.

Anxiety can trigger depression, and even the most positive person in the world can suddenly feel overwhelmed and unable to cope with lifes pressures making them suseptible to a "depressive episode"!.

So, i wouldn't say that it is a "weakness" (as in terms of 'character flaw' or other issues of personality or disposition) BUT that it definitely is one of those issues that is a challenge to overcome!.
Clinical Depression is called an "illness" due to the brain chemistry that surrounds the "disease" (i!.e, the chemical imbalance) that most often time requires a medicinal treatment in order to stabilise or "cure" the problem!. You wouldn't call "Cancer" or "Cystic Fybrosis" or "Diabetes" a "weakness" would you!? Therefore, the same criteria applies to Depression and other assorted illnesses of both emotions and the mind/brain!. As they, like physical diseases, are something the individual "cannot help" and most likey would not choose to have or deal with IF they had the choice!.

This is just my opinion anyways!. Hope it helps!.

In short: yes!.

Often times depression is a symptom of a chemical imbalance in one's brain; leading to a change in mood and overall physical condition!.

Many say that depression is a choice - that those who suffer from depression should just stop whining and focusing on the bad!. It is believed that many causes of depression can be treated with therapy!. While some causes of depression CAN in fact be treated with therapy, the chemical imbalances mentioned above can only be treated with drugs such as MAOI's!.

Depression is not a weakness of character, but rather a full-fledged illness!. Someone with depression is the same as anyone else with another type of chronic condition!. Depression dampens a person's natural bodily processes, causing decreased performance and both mental and physical exhaustion!.

Those most susceptible to depression are those with a history of it in their family, and those who suffer great stress from work or other facets of their lives!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, but not in the way that choosing to be a jerk is a weakness!. Clinical depression is not a choice and doesn't just go away- it requires therapy, motivation, medicine, or a combination!. But until then, it will be a problem and make even the small things difficult, and it will be harder to deal with others and what life throws at you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not, it is not a weakness!. It is a disease caused by a neurochemical imbalance in the brain!. It may make you more vulnerable to stress, but to call it a weakness sounds like calling it a character flaw, which it isn't!. It's also not the same thing as being in a bad mood, and it's certainly not a choice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For ALL, yes!. For some it is a weakness due to not knowing how to deal with things!. For others it's a weakness they were born with & require drugs to conteract the weakness!. These folks have no recourse & cannot "get stronger", but those who don't know how to deal with things, can get stronger with counseling or just removing themselves from the bad situation (easier said than done)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
