How can I come out of my shell more easily?!

Question: How can I come out of my shell more easily!?
I'm 17 male going off to college in the fall!. I have always been shy I guess, but with my friends that I have known for a while I am fine with!.

I want to be more outgoing, being able to say hi and start a conversation with someone!. I often times don't have anything to say, as if we don't have anything in common!. When someone tries to start off a conversation, I just answer with one word answers and the conversation is either over, or begins to sound more like an interview!. I guess you could say I am socially awkward, but I'm not the nerdy kind that spends their whole life in their room playing dungeons and dragons!.

I don't know how some people do it, being able to work a crowd and be outgoing!. I don't really get out much, might it be that I just need to be in more social places like parties and such!. I just shy away from them because they usually end up bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I suggest a "mantra" as you adjust to college!. Such as "people are people" or "others are shy in their own fashion" and go forward with your job of studying for your courses!. I think you may find college a better experience than high school!. Greater variety of people from all over the world!. Use your own trick ease your first phase fears!. It is a natural feeling!. Only other advice is not to fall too hard for the party scene!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

These things have worked for me: Say hi to people you pass on the street, in th store, wherever!. Ask a stranger for information - where's this store, is that a good movie, etc!.
Admit your shyness to someone!. They may feel the same way and be glad that you admitted it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You could try to simply say "Hi!." to someone you know somewhat!. I'm not quite sure how to answer your question, since I have basically the same problem!. Good luck in over coming your shyness though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You could write out a list of questions that people could ask you, then write out your answers!. You could also write out things you could ask them if the awkward silences come up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
