It's really difficult to diagnose different mood disorders!. It might well be that you have post-traumatic stress disorder and your doctor mistook the symptoms for bipolar!. Having traumatic experiences will not give you bipolar disorder, but post-traumatic stress can have similar symptoms!. If it was after a very brief interview, I wouldn't take the diagnosis too seriously!. You should find someone who you can talk to more in-depth about your experiences, both to get a second opinion on the diagnosis and for your own mental health!. :)
Having someone to talk to can be enormously helpful, bipolar or no!. I wish you the best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly, I am not a doctor, and cannot make a "real" diagnosis of you!.
To answer your questions, traumatic experiences don't tend to make you bipolar!.
Do a little research on bipolar disorder!. The main symptoms include periods of depression, and periods of hyperactivity, with no "normal" times!.
If you are looking for help mentally, make sure to mention that you had some traumatic experiences, as these very often have an affect on one's psychology and behavior!.
Go to your primary doctor first, and get a referral to a therapist!. A therapist will best be able to help figure out what problems you are having, and where they are coming from!. At first, revealing traumatic experiences can be quite uncomfortable, but as you get to know a therapist a little better, he or she will better be able to help you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
