How can I stop having night terrors?!
Question: How can I stop having night terrors!?
my boyfriend tells me almost every night I wake up frightened, sit bolt upright, wide eyes, grab him and say silly things like "theres something not right about this room" or I mention my son is not safe in his cot or I point to imaginary things on the wall, curtain etc and exclaim "what is that on the wall" other times I have run out of bed to my sons bed, have run to the front door, the window - this has been going on for about a year now on and off I do have an anxiety disorder and am on anti depressants called effexor xl, im not sure if this could be a side effect or the actual disorder itself, the thing is how can I stop it from happening!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
It could be the antidepressant - it has known effects upon sleep and sleep patterns, dreams and dreaming!. Which can be severe!.
Acting out dreams could be one particular effect of the medication e!.g!. RBD, REM problems, perhaps something to discuss with your doctor!?
The sleep issue is a common one with these antidepressants, and has been reported for years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my son used to suffer from night terrors but now only gets them when he has a temperature!. The only way I can wake him up from them is to get his feet wet with cold water!.
I ensure that he is not too hot in his bed (as it appears that it is when he is hot the terros arrive) so try to keep a window open or have a low tog duvet etc!.
Also, don't eat cheese or anything sweet before you go bed - I've heard they encourage dreaming!

Try some yoga - especially yoga breathing!. When you find you are pannicky notice your breathing and slow it down!. just doing a slow count of 4 as you inhale and exhale will help!. Having a regular massage may help, also lavender essential oil is calming (can put a few drops on your pillow at night)!. Do talk to a medical professional about this, if you have not already!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
