Ssi abuse?!

Question: Ssi abuse!?
I know of a person who is legitimately on ssi!. I know this person very well!. My thing is that this person goes to all the close gas stations and gambles his whole check with in the first day or 2!. He then goes to family or other people he knows and lies about what happened to his money, in which he borrows more!. Borrows from the old people in his apartment!. He has bouncy checks all over!. He tells the bank a sob story so they will stop charges!. His check will come on the first again and it starts all over!. He will be gone hours!. I believe he will get in big trouble one of these days because it will look like nothing is wrong with him!. He has seizures and on strong meds and rides a bike around!. I don't think his family believes he is going this far!. He lies to them also!. He talks to me about his problems and how he gambles!. What is the best thing to say to this person like this!?!. He comes to me, I don't go to him!.
He also states hes loves to gamble and has no intensions of quiting!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The only thing you can really do is to NEVER, under any circumstances, give this person any money!. Don't cash any checks for them either!. This person sounds like they have an addiction problem!. Addiction does not necessarily have to be a chemical addiction, gambling is just as destructive!. If you have some type of Adult Protective agency in your local department of Social Services you may be able to report this person to them, and you can request that they be evaluated for a Representative Payee!. Don't be surprised though if they say they can't help!. It is very sad that people in this person's situation have to hit below rock bottom before anyone will step in and give them services!. This person needs a rep payee, but they will only get one if a doctor says they need one!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If he has no plans of quitting, there isn't much you can do!. I get disability, and have a shopping problem, I try not to ask for money, but it is hard, and I try to work it out by selling things on eBay!. They are my problems, and I have to learn to deal with them!.!.!.!. sounds like once a user (getting other's to give him money) he will always be that way!. I would maybe stop listening to him!. Say dude you screwed up again, and you want people to bail you out, take some responsibility for your life and your money!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

How I feel for you!. I once had a friend doing the same thing, but he had a wife and 2 toddlers to support!. I would always be the sucker who gave him money, and when I refused he would come the ol' kids got no food story!. He was sure that he could live the life of a professional gambler!. Unless you can convince your friend to seek help, there is nothing you can do until he hits rock bottom!. Next time he comes to you with his problems, tell him you are getting a bit bored with the same old stories, and ask if he is bored telling them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The clue is in his statement about him having no intention of quiting!. He's a gambling addict and as such he will not listen to anything you say until he is ready to confront the issue!. I would assume his family are not stupid and know he can't be losing money ever week so they are probably in denial as well or think they are doing the right thing by giving him more money!. I think it would be difficult to actually help this person until he wants it so your hands are tied and it is a waiting game for you!. I would imagine a very frustrating waiting game but a waiting game all the same!.
