Question about antipsychotics?!

Question: Question about antipsychotics!?
My doctor and I have been experimenting to see which antipsychotic medication is the one for me!. I've tried Invega and Geodon, and had bad side effects with both!. However, I also had the feeling of being 'dumbed down'!. I don't know how else to describe it, except that my thought processes were not as clear as I'm used to!. I couldn't think normally with either of them!. Is this typical of all antipsychotic medications!? Or can I be hopeful that I won't feel like an idiot with every medication I try!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I hope you find one that works!. I'm on risperdal which keeps the psychosis at bay most of the time!. I do experience this dumbed down feeling your describing!. I've never tried other medications, but I think it's safe to say you may very well experience that as a side effect with every med you try!. You say you cannot think while on them!. I cannot think without them!. So you have to weigh the pros and the cons of the med will it help or will it not!. I'd rather suffer a little mental haze than be totally nuts!. !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a balance in any medicine you take!. Finding the one that works for you is a time consuming process!. Be positive and patient, do not give up and find the one that works best for you!. Many antipsychotics do make you feel slightly groggy, there may have to be a trade-off somewhere, however most of the side effects can be negated through exercise and making your health your number one priority!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If sedation is a problem with the other meds one good option might be abilify!. Abilify doesn't usually cause sedation and it has few side effects!. In clinical trials, the side effects were no worse than placebo!. I take abilify and have not experienced too many side effects!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had this at the beginning and still have it to enough of a degree to warrant for extra time in my exams!.
I take olanzapine!.
The good news is that it wears off!. Give it time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been on several different antipsychotics!.!.!.some were horrible!.!.!.some were great!.!.!.and some did nothing!.

I hated risperdal (which is a relative to invega!.!.!.which I also hated)!.!.!.risperdal not only made me restless, antsy, confused and as you put it "dumbed down"!.!.!.I also started lactating (heavely) and lost my period!.!.!.I'm just now getting it back and that was a year ago!.
Prolixin was horrible!.!.!.it made me feel like I was in a fog that only I could see!. I had this stupid smile on my face that scared people, I couldn't stay on a thought long enough to talk to anyone!.!.!.if the sentence could be a few words long I was fine!.!.!.but otherwise I just avoided being around poeple I knew would ask me questions!.
Abilify made me suicidal!.!.!.more so then I normally am!.!.!.I'm always think about how to do it!.!.!.but abilify made me actually act on those feelings!.
Geodon was a wonderdrug for me!. I felt so much better, the voices were undercontrol!.!.!.but it did nothing about the shadow people or the paranoia!.!.!.and I had hardly any side effects!.!.!.but I did have a problem when I forgot to eat and took the meds!.!.!.they won't work as well!.
And now I'm on Seroquel!. I hate this stuff!.!.not because of restlessness or any other horrible side effect!.!.!.but because it does nothing!. I've talked to my doc and eveyrone else who'd listen and told htem this med was doing nothing for me!.!.!.nothing! They have me on 900mg even though they know this med has been proven to cause diabetis(sp!?)!.!.!.They won't believe what I was saying about the med because I was sick and how would I know if the med was working or not!.!.I'm not the one with that special degree!.

I wish I could tell you about this one med that is just totally awesome but they work different for everyone!.!.!.I'm sorry!. You'll just have to keep doing the trial and error way and hope you find one that works great for you!.
