Hi Charleigh

As others have already said, if you are deemed to be a danger to either yourself or to others then that would be one of the criteria for you being admitted into hospital!.

I realise that this must be a very stressful time for you and you are worried about having to explain a stay in hospital to your parents!. However, please try and understand that people are trying to help you!.

At this stage it sounds as though you are being asked to go in hospital as a voluntary patient, believe me this is much more preferable to being sectioned and forced to go, against your own will!.

Is it possible for you to try and discuss this with your parents, tell them that you are unwell at the moment and need to have some treatment, in hospital, to help you!? I'd certainly advocate this if it is at all possible!.

Please use these links to the Mind website, as they have some great information

Maybe you could ask some of your family to also read this information, as it may help them to understand more about how you are feeling!.

Please also have a look around the website as there is so much information available that I can't give a link to it all!.

It would a good idea to discuss things with the people who are suggesting that you stay in hospital for a while!. You are allowed to ask questions, so ask them some of the things that you have mentioned here!. It may be that they want to start you on new medication, or alter what you are already taking, and they feel it would help them if they can keep an eye on you while that happens!.

I hope this helps!.

Take care and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

people are sent to mental hospital for a variety of reasons but usually because their coping mechanisms are failing them and they are unable to function normally in the every day world

it may be your actions that are giving cause for concern so ask!!

you can ask why you are being referred
what your treatment will be
how long you are likely to be in
if there is an out-patient option -if you really don't want to be admitted
-etc

good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Usually people get sent to the hospital when they do something/say something/ or not to anything (sleep all the time), that may be detrimental to themselves!. You really can't say anything to convince them that you are ok, because you are probably not!. If they noticed this then they are trying to help!. So go to the hospitalWww@Answer-Health@Com

One factor is risk!. If professionals see you as a risk to yourself or a risk to others then they may lock you up!. You will normally be locked up for 4 weeks "for assessment"!. At the end of this time you might be released with or without medication!. If at the end of 4 weeks you are still deemed to be risky then you may be locked up for a further 6 months (renewable)!. One of the main risk factors seems to be psychosis which is characterised by some kind of loss of touch with reality or depression or elation (mania)!. Get further information from your doctors!. Put pressure on them to be straight with you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You must be rocking and bouncing off the ceilings before a doctor will normally section you, eg telling people you are going to harm yourself or take your own life, or if you are very delusional!. If everybody is saying that you need to be sectioned I would advice you sit down with them and calmly ask them to explain why, you may want to admit yourself afterwards as you would be free to leave easier than if a doctor sections you, were theoretically you could be detained indefinitely!. I once worked with a guy who had been sectioned for over 11 years in one stretch and he was quiet stable!. Good luck anyway!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

think back to past behavoir, things you might of said and done out of the ordinary, ask people to be honest with you and ask them why they think such drastic help is needed, talk to your doctor as well, if you do need help your doctor might be able to help without you going into hospital!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

If you have been deemed under the Mental Health Act then someone thought you needed that sort of care!.
You don't say where you are from, UK/US and whether you are a voluntary patient or not so actual advice is difficult!. Not to mention you do not say who they are!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can be commited for being a danger to yourself or others!. Did you talk about suicide, huting yourself, hurting/killing someone!? Other than that you can also be commited for not being able to care for yourself feed bathe etc!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you think people considered you a danger to yourself or to others!? Do you joke about causing harm to yourself!? Have you been diagnosed with a mental disorder!? They care for you and don't want to see you hurt!. Just talk with them and be honest!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Only you can answer that but you could have said a number of things!.
If you can't remember what you said then maybe you do need some help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Normally, people only would be sectioned if they were a danger to themselves or others!. Are you!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hmm, were you growling and trying to swipe away the invisible bats!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
