Any good books out there about growing up in a violent/emotionally abusive home?!

Question: self help, or just a good book...? not really looking for 'physical abuse' as much as emotional...

Toxic Parents

I personally like a Child Called It and the series. Probably one of my favorites!

A child called IT, I don't remember the author, but it's a good book (if you like reading about that kind of stuff) it's a true story.

The author for A Child Called It is David Peltzer. That's an excellent series. Another great book is Outgrowing the Pain- Adults abused as Children by Eliana Gil. It's a short book and very easy to follow and understand. It desbribes each type of abuse and how it affects the wounded adult. It's really good for people who are just starting to deal with that part of their life. I also found The Wounded Heart by Dr. Dan B. Allender to be extremely helpful. It deals with mosly sexual abuse but honestly, I could apply it to any area of my life. I had pretty much every kind of abuse there is growing up and I was able to get so much from this book. A word of caution though- it's a bit redundant and reads kind of like an instruction manual. If you can overlook those things it's still really good for healing, no matter what types of abuse you've been through.
