Is it possible for a person to lose their social skills ???!

Question: I used to have friends in HS and went out a lot.
after HS I lost contact with everybody and pretty much stuck to myself.
Now it's been 3 years later and I still have ZERO friends and it seems that I have become so uncomfortable in social settings that I avoid them completely.

Now all I do is go to work and school with no interaction with anybody, that it's becoming so depressing.

where did my social skills go ??

High School is a very social time for most people. If you made friends there, I see no reason you can't make friends in other social groups.
If you substitute HS with a social group of your peers, I'm sure you will find that, given time, you will make other friends.
You mentioned work and school. I assume you mean college. Look around and see if you and others from your job, or school, might have a social group of common interest. Get involved.
If you can make time, go volunteer somewhere. There is always a need for volunteers. Identify your strengths, or your interests that you want to be strengths, and join a social organization where you can hone those skills.
Take a look at your schedule. It's great to work as much as possible and carry a full class schedule, but it's not for everyone. You may be burning out. Coming from someone who went to school 33 hours per week, and carried a full time job, I can tell you that it's no fun, and that kind of pressure can ruin your work ethic.

ill help you. you just needa little motivation

Why don't you call up some of your old friends? I'm sure they'd be glad to hear from you.

doesn't sound like a social skill issue, but more like a self confidence issue.
You are putting yourself in social situations that aren't right for you, hanging out with people who aren't right for you... Find a hobby or an interest and you will find like minds.

Best of luck

You didn't loose your social skills, you got scared. Scared of making new friends and what if they don't like you or hurt you, or worse let you down or your disappointed in their actions. You have to take a chance and when it comes to friends then sometimes you have to drop your standards. You also have to build yourself confidence to know that you can make friends. GL!

i know how u feel. i think u have social anxiety. im in a similar situation as u. if u ever feel like talking i'm online on aim. my screename is TheBTPYoda. hang in there.

Most mental illnesses are first identified by others by a decrease in social function. You could have the cluster of symptoms that effect many people, social phobia, depression and OCD thoughts. Antidepressants work on all of these areas. See a doctor and be assessed. warm wishes

Same here! I have anxiety and I cant interact with people the way I used to for some reason. I know a couple of people who are going through the same thing. As much as it sucks to say I think these phases last a good few years but alot of people go through them. My bestfriend eventually faced his fear of people and slowly started to regain his social skills. My only tip is get some professional help and maybe theyll help you get down to the root of the problem(lack of self confidence, maybe a friendship traumatized you?) and you can start from there.
Goodluck!
