Insomniac?!

Question: My boyfriend called me an insomniac because
I go to bed at like 3 and wake up at 6.30
and i am not tired. during the day or at night.
and i have plenty of energy
and i'll sit and lay in bed in the dark
no sound etc and i'll close my eyes but
i can't fall asleep. he says it's not healty for
an 18 year old to be getting that little amount of sleep.

could i be?
any suggestions?
without pills? bc i'd have to
talk to my therepist and i REALLY
don't like her.

I have the same problem. For a while there, I was trying to take a sleeping pill, but it did not seem to work. I would still sit in my bed in the dark for almost 2hours before I went to sleep(this is 2hours after taking the pill). I just have gotten used to it. It isn't that bad as long as you keep yourself somewhat busy.

Reading, writing, watching movies, etc is a great way to pass the night away if you have to. I tend to read a lot during the day, and usually finish 300pages or so in a day because of my 4-4:30 am bed time. I know it's late, but usually 3-4hours of sleep in a day is all I need to operate during the week days.

I would guess insomniac also... Supposedly it is not healthy to get so little sleep... However, it also seems to me that our bodies should know if we are tired... and need sleep... and if it were the case that we needed the sleep, I would think that we would sleep... So, I am thinking that everyone needs a different amount of sleep. I myself can only sleep 1 - 2 hours,,, then I wake up... then, usually after a few hours, I go back to sleep for a couple more hours. Sometimes it sucks... cause everyone else is asleep... but, perhaps you could read... or just lay there with your eyes closed...
I think though, that as long as you feel good, you are fine.

I would never suggest sleeping pills unless it got very severe because pills like ambien and lunesta have caused much more problems than a little sleep is worth.

personally, Ive had my bouts with insomnia and i think sometimes its just part of life stages. but to me if you arent tired it doesnt sound like insomnia but just maybe your body runs off less sleep than a normal person. typically insomniacs are very tired but CANT sleep. their body is exhausted but their mind wont let them sleep. so if youre not experiencing that then maybe its something else.

do you have mood swings? or like times where you spend lots of money frivolously? cause it could be that you're bi-polar and the not sleeping is a manic episode. a very long one obviously but thats a thought.

um. if you dont like your therapist find a new one and talk with them about it. you should never stay with a therapist that you dont like. then its just obsolete because then why do you even have one?
