I have the same problem but with a multitude of scars on my arms.
I have found the best thing was to ease myself into wearing short sleeved shirts around my family and close friends until I felt comfortable enough with that to wear them around friends who weren't as close and so on until now I even wear a t-shirt at work. And of all the people I have served, nobody has ever even given them a second glance. You need to realise that people are actually very tolerable of that sort of thing and be comfortable with your arms yourself before you change them.
I have started using silicon gel on my arms and after a few months am considering laser removal, which is another option. Find a doctor specialising in either dermatology or laser aesthetics and you should be good :)
All the best.

Use makeup on your arms. Seriously...

I would try mederma...its for scars. You can get it at wal-mart...its a bit pricey but may work.

Hey, I have a similar problem myself!

It's definitely possible to cover them up, its just depends what type of scar they are. If they are just normal thin white scars and not too raised then general coverup makeup will do the trick, even concealer for small scars. Just make sure its waterproof. I also find that flesh-coloured zinc sticks are good for this, particularly for swimming, these will also protect you from the sun as sun exposure will make the scars stand out more.

If you have more obvious scars, red/purple, raised and wider, you probably have hypertrophic or keloid scars. To cover this sort of stuff you need proper cosmetic coverup. the best stuff I've heard of is a brand called Dermablend, its online and you can buy it in several different countries. Lots of colours, usually waterproof and not too expensive.

There are also a bunch of ways supposed to reduce scarring such as gel strips, vitamin e cream and specific scar creams. I haven't found any of these to work but other people have and my scars are pretty bad. If you're not too embarrassed, also ask your doctor, they can be helpful.

If you live in Australia or have good health insurance there's also the option of plastic surgery, it can be pretty good, again, ask you doctor.

You can use the Mederma to help smooth them out some, but it's expensive and you will need to use it at least daily for several months to see any effect at all. Even so, it's no eraser and won't remove everything. As far as what to say when people ask about the scars, if they aren't people you want to know just look like you don't give them much thought and say "Oh, those. Yeah, well it happened when I was a little kid. I got cut or something." It's honest, short and sweet. If you don't look like there is more to the story, most folks will let it drop after that. Lots of folks have odd dings and scars from childhood accidents and it's just not a big deal. As long as you aren't still self harming and don't have anything else you are wanting to hide- you have nothing to fear and nothing you really need to explain.

I used Mederma - just to tell you, for me it didn't work. And my scars (also from self injury) are only slight and a bit noticeable. Still the same.

i got a tattoo to cover mine, if you dont want something that permnanant try using minberal makeup foundation it relly works

Yahh there is heaps .. theres stuff from avon that have repair cream

Well done for stopping =]
use aloe vera gel it heels most scars up
