the problem is they took God out of school. look back when people used to pray and care about each other. if we followed one basic commandment LOVE ONE ANOTHER there is no maybe, people would not be even thinking about bringing a gun to school. it's sick and sad and i am getting scared about sending my girls to school!

Some peole dont fit in and just cant take it anymore. They suffer every day in college/ school until they explode and feel the urge to kill everyone and then themselves,to get revenge and then end the torture they call life.Sounds great, don't it,lol.

Most often it's people with really low self-esteem, that grow to hate the other students or the institution itself. You usually think of nerdy kids doing it, but I'm sure jocks could too, if the athletic pressure gets to be too much, or they were never cut out for such competition.
Some people are pushed around so much that they start to see everything as a threat, and just lose it.

scary cuz it could happen to any school at any time

I think alot of them are copy cat attacks. I also think the students have mental issues, as was found with the texas guy. Maybe they have been failing uni or had falling outs with other students, and they feel they have to get back at them.
It's very unfortunate. and also very selfish.

Some people crave fame.
some people feel they can no longer handle the daily stresses we all deal with.
these are people who find away to achive Fame while ending their own lives.

Sad isn't it?

We live in a disconnected society: the close family and neighborhood structure has disappeared. People communicate through cell phones, chat sites, myspace, and e-mails. Personal relationships and commitments suffer. This is the fast food age. People want things fast and are impatient. Impersonal is the way of this age.

well, look at all the questions in the mental health section. people are severely depressed, and they don't know how to properly take out all their aggression. they feel like they're backed up against a wall, and everyone is against them. so, a good question is, why are there so many seriously fu*king depressed people in this country? i think it has something to do with the technological era that we live in. everyone is cut off and isolated, and people lose sight of the value of human life. although, if you look back, life several hundred years ago was much more bloody. and the value of human life was much lower than it is today. so, in the grand scheme of things, life at this point in history,(shootings and all) really isn't that bad.

I think that it's the media's fault. Some people are depressed at school, maybe getting bullied and I think that they get the idea of school shootings from the people who did it before. They say, "Hey, that's a good idea!". This is what I think.

My take is that these schools should employ armed security, to be stationed at various points throughout campus, and especially where people congregate.

I think people are just snapping, having been a little "off" for quite a while and not receiving treatment or help for it. Decades ago, people had the same feelings and problems but people didn't just go to the mall or school and start killing people. It's like people are so desensitized to death and killing now, that it seems like a viable option to some.

you said it right....hell.....evil hearted people does evil things. as evil embed itself deeper in the minds and hearts of people, acts such as these will continue to go on. satan's job is to seek out and destroy. as we look around at all the evil that goes on in this world today, there must be a devil, for the spirit of darkness is being seen more and more......

If you read the New York Times article about the shooter in Illinois, you will see that it states "he stopped taking his medication". So, although 2+2 does not always equal 4, we can make a relatively safe leap here and deduce that while he was on his medication he was "happy, normal, and motivated", and when he stopped taking his meds he became a sniper. Hmmm.....
The article states "Professors and students knew him as a bright, helpful scholar, but his past included a stint in a mental health center....The 27-year-old Kazmierczak also had a history of mental illness and had become erratic in the past two weeks after he stopped taking his medication...A former employee at a Chicago psychiatric treatment center said Kazmierczak had been placed there after high school by his parents. He used to cut himself and had resisted taking his medications, she said."

Although I am not a professional mental health expert, it sounds as if Mr. Kazmierczak was suffering with schizophrenia and anosognosia (lack of insight)
which fifty to sixty percent of schizophrenics show signs of. That is why he stopped taking his meds, he didn't think there was anything wrong with him. He is the perfect example of why it is vitally important that our society recognize anosognosia as a debilitating condition relative to schizophrenia and force medication and treatment with them. It is a very sad outcome to a bad situation, and there is no one to blame in this situation except those who refuse to acknowledge that there are situations in which "free will" should have no part, and schizophrenics' refusal to take medication is one of them.

What's to comprehend? Some sicko shot some people in a school. He got killed too. Too bad... Now you should apply to the school, they have openings.

It's the availability of firearms, and the national mind set that seems to think guns can solve all our personal problems that's to blame..

Plus, we have violence ''enablers" such as the NRA and the "Gun Lobby". While condemning the violenceout of one side of their mouths, they do all they can to prevent any effctive legal action to control the violence.

They perpetuate the myth that an "armed America" is somehow safer, that more guns and less regulation is an inherent right -- not only to own guns, but to use them as a political or personal expression of "freedom".Opposing any rational legal methods of regulating the sale, use and accountability of those who use firearms.

That obviously is a distortion of what the Constitution and common sense tells us. Nationw that have thousands, even millions of guns without adequate regulations: Iraq, Darfur,Somalia, Afghanistan, Kenya, and the United States, for example, all suffer from the same form of violence, that is,violence directed primarily on the innocent and vulnerable in those societies.

The United States already has enough guns to arm every man woman and child two times over, and the "enablers" want to make the USA into a national "free fire zone", a big paint ball match with bullets.

Even years ago when I went to school, there was so much
pressure to fit in, and some people were popular and others
not, just to much crap to deal with besides the school work
itself. In my opinion all people who attend school should have
to wear the same outfits. Everyone should look the same, and that would take alot of stress off of some students. I
know when I went to school, because I came from a poor
family I had little to choose from as far as clothes went. There
were always girls who looked so much better and it made
me feel awful. Also there are alot of bullys out there. People
hide their stress, and it can take something very small for
them to blow up and hurt someone. I think it's only going
to get worse. You don't hear about these things happening
to adults at work. Kids don't know how to cope with many
problems and they don't seek help either. There should
be classes teaching them how to deal with life in general and
pressures at school.
