It helps me- its not a mind blowing difference but it has definatly helped and I would not be without it.

I do running- not sprinting, but running 9km per hour (it took me a whole to get up to this) for 15 mins, every other day, sometimes every day. I do a spinning class for about 40 mins a time, one maybe two a week, I do cross training work for 15 mins and rowing machine for 10 mins, both every other day. And I also do atleast one, but up to 3 gym class a week, (step classes, aerobic classes, bums tums thight classes...) some are non cardio, like power yoga which will raise a sweat but wont put me at a cardio rate, but it teaches me how to stnad straight how to move and stretch efficiently and how to repair pulled muscles. It also helps me to focus and gives me a boost to work on improving myself, its amazing that one week I cant do a posture and the next its so easy...!

I recommend it alot- if it makes you sweat, do it for 15 mins before catching your breath then begin again, I would recommend doing atleast 30 mins but not more then a 2 hour session at a time.

Eat when your excercising as well, dont eat an hour before you start but pre excercise I tend to eat something with a form of protein in, and after I eat some carbohydrates like potatoe, porridge or fresh fruit. (or a smoothie if your not feeling hungry) just dont eat more then you burn!

I hope you do try it, I started off doing one half hour session a week about 5 years ago, I now do something evry day, and spend upwards of an hour a time. (average time is 1.5 hours).

Its geibe me self esteem, its given me energy and its given me some sort of chemical boost, again not mind blowing, but definatly worth all th hours on the tredmill!

Hope this helps.

Walking is great for depression. 30-60 minutes a day. It will really make you feel better. And walking doesn't cost anything. Good luck.

I walk.. a lot. It gives me time to think and clear my mind. I also LOVE to skate. It keeps your mind of things, and keeps you concetrated... as well as being good excersise.. I suffer from depression too.. I know the feeling

Can be aerobic type workout, but quite honestly go for a long brisk walk, gets the heart pumping just as well and does the job just as effectively. If you don;t like to walk on your own enlist some friends and do yourself some good, that's what i do.

Any kind of exercise or activity that you enjoy is good for depression.

When you work out it tends to make you feel better because you know you are doing something positive for yourself!

It is indeed true. I feel 100% better after I exercise and it's amazing. There are lots of workouts you can do here's the one I just did the other night...

5 rounds of this

First a 400 on the tred mill which is .25 of one mile or about 3 minutes I think
-then 20 jumping pullups
-then 30 thrusters using just a weight bar w/no extra weights (i used one that was 30 pounds the regulat ones are 45 though just find the weight which works for you)
-then 40 situps
-then 50 squats (no weights)
should take a little over an hour you will feel dead tired but amazing

A fast brisk walk that makes you feel out of breath every day

Most important , positive thinking :))
You are what you think
Whenever your down, just think about how you got there.

It is true that cardio-vascular exercise can help with depression. It doesn't have to be too strenuous either, a 30 minute walk at a pace that leaves you slightly breathless and with an increased heart rate is enough. Many doctors now say this as this pace will be different for every type of person and don't go on a set amount of pulse rate. This along with a good healthy balanced diet and if necessary prescribed medication all help. I suffer from depression too and try and get out (weather permitting) on a daily basis and walk into the town where I live and around the shops (as long as it isn't too crowded!)
