A common side effect of Effexor is anxiety, agitation, and irritability.

Why docs prescribe this medication for people with anxiety problems always amazes me.

Discuss with your doc trying a different antidepressant in the SSRI category, such as Prozac or Zoloft (there are others too).

Benzos are especially helpful when a panic attack is about to come on or has happened.

About your sexuality issues, you've got it rough. Are you able to move out and relocate on your own to a town more gay-friendly?

You'd find friends of like kind, support systems, and an open, and happier atmosphere. That is what I suggest you do.

It sounds like you could benefit from some counseling or a good self esteem book. But first and foremost, stop being so hard on yourself. You were born this way and didn't choose it. It's a hard life, but this is who you are. Accepting it yourself will help to. Try to find some gay organizations around where you live. They usually have great groups and people to talk to that understand your situtation.

Good luck.

i think gay people can be pretty damn kool....im straight by the way. but theres this program that i saw on tv man its called midwest center for stress and anxiety...go to the website www.stresscenter.com, hope that helps

I have dealt with some pretty severe anxiety issues and there were times when I thought that it would never improve. With good self care, some counseling, and perserverence it has improved so much that I don't even feel like the same person. Get plenty of sleep, get in a routine and take care of yourself. Medication didn't help me so I have done it without taking drugs. I'm not totally against meds-they just didn't make me feel better and often made me feel much worse.

get the psychiatry's advice. h

No medication in the world ever really works on Anxiety ...the true answer is God.......I ray and he helps me with my life...bye bye anxiety
prayer and meditation are the answer
