Breakdown or schizophrenia? please help!?!

Question: i have generalized anxiety disorder and depression and have since i was 16 (im now 19). i am extremely stressed out and this morning (its still morning) i woke up freaking out pacing my house trying to calm down. i woke up in the middle of a dream and in my dream satan was trying to attack me. i woke up thinking there were cameras in the house because in my dream there were cameras and that way satan could always find me. im wondering if im still in the sleep mode or still waking up (i feel like im still stuck in my dream) or if im going crazy or if im having a mental breakdown since i seem to do so about once or twice a year since i do not like to share how im feeling ever. you cant just develop schizophrenia in one day can you? no one has it in my family. i am seriously freaking out right now and going to call a doctor/psychiatrist soon. im wondering if its my meds though. i just switched to 150 mg of sertaline (offbrand for zoloft) yesterday. could that be it? please help and thanks

From what you've described it sounds more like a reaction to the meds. Schizophrenia develops over time not just one day, alos the majority of schizophrenics do not know they are schizophrenic - have no idea they are becoming and that their thoughts are odd or out of the ordinary.
Schizophrenics have a loss of reality and clearly if you are questioning your sanity are still here (in reality).
I would seek a counselor and talk with them about your thoughts it sounds though that the Zoloft is aggravating your anxiety/moods, which it is common for the first couple of weeks. It's also known to cause vivid dreams and it is normal every once in a while to wake up and still think your dreaming - especially if your anxious or depressed. Talk to your doctor about it.

well maybe you should go see a doct... ........wait somebody is in my house nooooooo!!!

if this keeps up any longer, it could possibly be schizophrenia. you cant really get it in one day. check with your doctor

When you feel bad or strange feelings see your therapist or call one.

Hello,
You are at that age where schizophrenia set in, however no one in your family has it and it is a extreme disorder. If a family member had it I am sure you would know!

Those happy pills can give people night terrors. I call these night terrors. I get them too. Dreams are so vivid sometimes....

Anxiety, and OCD then you are taking a happy pill too (these are pick me up pills and what doctors love to try to put everyone on), that may just mess you up enough to be the way yo are right now.
Just calm down do your normal routine and wake yourself up. Things will be better.
Wish you well.

If you just swithched meds yesterday it could have something to do with it. Sometimes the wrong medication can make you worse instead of better. Maybe you should call someone to come over with you and maybe that will help you feel better. I have a cousin that has anxiety disorder and she calls me when ever she feels like she's " freaking out". I usually talk to her until she calms down and she's laughing. One thing I've noticed with two of my family members ( that have anx dis) is they hardly ever go anywhere. They stay cooped up in the house. So it usually makes her feel better to have conversation or get out of the house. I hope you feel better. Good luck

It's normal to have times where you think you're still in a dream immediately after waking up. It's also more likely to happen if you are stressed out or if you are taking SSRIs. Unless it continues for more than a minute or two, I wouldn't worry too much about it being an indiciation of you having a breakdown or schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia doesn't happen overnight. There is what's called a "Prodromal Phase" that you might want to look up. It's possible you are in that phase, but I think the things you're experiecing have to do with your anxiety disorder. I would talk to your doctor about this.

Try to calm down. Go through your morning routine. You said that you just switched the dosage on your meds so you can expect some changes in the way you feel. You need to let your doctor know that you're having these problems. You've been taking meds for awhile now so you know that there can be side effects. Try not to self-diagnose. I know, easier to say than to do.

You need to talk to a doctor about this, because if you catch whatever is going on right now, and try to put an end to it, you may save yourself.

what u are experiencing sounds like bi polar with manic tendencies. Alot of times when a bipolar is issued antidepressants, it propels them into a manic episode. I would contact ur doc and/or therapist ASAP Good luck hun

Zoloft is an SSRI. It has been proven that this is a very dangerous drug. You will find that most school killings are caused by people on SSRI's. It's the drugs that make you get worse instead of better. This is an huge dosage of this drug. that is why you are having these dreams.

You need to wean off these drugs...10% at a time.

Yahoo has a support group for SSRI's....look under their groups. Google SSRI's. No matter what any doctor states, they take effect immediately...not 30 days.

Good luck, and God Bless
