Should I be more assertive and stick up for myself?!

Question: I really don't like to fight period. I always try to avoid fighting, or resolve it. I never really like to fight, so I just don't let things bother me. For example, people get my name wrong all the time and call me a boy's name, and I don't let it bother me. It isn't worth it, really...

Should I be more assertive? Or should I just stay this way and donot let things bother me? People say I let people walk on me.. :(

You shouldn't let people walk all over you, but i do like the idea of letting little things go, if the name things bother you just mention it no one will think your starting a fight they will just say oh right! but you need to learn to say no if you let people walk all over, easier sadi then dones i understand, ask your doctor about assertiveness classes, or confidence classes both could help you stand up for yourself and feel happy about it instead of feeling guilty if you say no to someone for example.

best of luck : )

u need to cause it does bother u. I gave similar issues its hard

Your name is your identity. You should say, "actually it's pronounced ______. It's ok..." That wouldn't start a fight. People are right. Push overs are lame I don't respect them at all.

Maybe you should and maybe you shouldn't.

Well, you need to start standing up for yourself. I had that problem, and everyone took advantage of me. Tell them that the name isn't correct, just dont over do it and make yourself seem like a drama queen.

Don't be too assertive, but stick up for yourself! And either way don't let what anyone says get to you. Good luck!

No one likes to fight and there are times when you need to stand up for yourself ,but do it in a nice way .Don't let people take advantage of you .You don't have to fight to get your point across people will respect you more by doing it with some class.....

There are times when you have to stand up for yourself, and there are times when you can just let it go. I admire you very much for your self control. If someone pronounces your name incorrectly, simply say," Oh, it is pronounced------. It's fine." That way no fight is started and you get your message across. I hope I helped!

When people say your name wrong, just correct them. If someone is insulting you, you would want to stand up for yourself, or they'll contunie pissing you off all the time.

I'm the same way. Always have been. And the one time I really stood my ground and fought the good fight, I ended with a police record that is putting my volunteer days and the prospect of a new, really good career at risk. Not to mention a few broken bones and a few days stay in a hospital bed.

But in the years of letting everything go, I've let allot of things go that I really should have stood up for. And as the years go by, it really makes a mark on you. You're young, you still have time. Learn to pick your battles and do so with a state of class and grace. Don't start wearing leather and masks and burn down buildings in protest. Use music as an outlet, I always do that now.

A person must always stick up for themselves. It isn't like
being super assertive just making the field clear that you
make mistakes but who doesn't. If you can find a perfect
person let me know . It isn't really fighting either, just sticking
up for oneself, unless you don't love yourself.
