Answers:

nicegirl,

Why was vicodin prescribed to begin with?

Don't be too upset about this yet. Your doctor prescribed it, you say? And you are taking the original prescription pills, or have you refilled it? If they are from the original prescription, I think you probably don't have much to worry about.

However, now that you know about it, it's time to stop. If you know that you are taking them "for no reason," then you can still stop, and you should immediately.

You say that you take them for no reason, and if that's true, then you are not yet addicted, but you are very likely close to it. Usually addicts take them for the feeling of euphoria they give as well as the good feeling that gets them through the day. If you take them for no reason, then you're still safe and able to stop.

Do so now.

Then see what happens. If you become depressed and exhausted, then you are addicted and you should seek treatment. Those symptoms can last for two weeks, usually longer than addicts can withstand. They can get through them only with help. Happily, there is plenty of help to be had.

As for telling your husband, if your marriage is a good one then by all means do so. You have not bought them illegally, if you're still on your original prescription, then you've done nothing wrong and you will not cause him any trouble, especially if you want to quit, enlist his help to do so, or seek professional help to quit. This sort of thing happens.

You'll only cause him and you trouble if you do something illegal. So far, from what you've said, you have not. Therefore, now would be a very good time to tell him and find any way possible to stop.

And maybe never take it again. There are plenty of other pain killers, should you need them in the future.
