Are branded medicines really effective than the generic ones?!

Question:

Are branded medicines really effective than the generic ones?

Why are branded ones are more expensive? Are the "ingredients" (contents) that really much effective? I want to have a clear explanation on this.

Answers:

Name brand medicines almost always contain the same active ingredient as generic ones. The key words here are "active ingredients". Many generic medications add "fillers" that can cause adverse reactions or allergic reactions in some people that a brand name medication may not have caused. Sometimes people think they are allergic to a medication, when in fact it is an allergy to one of the fillers that they actually had. Name brand medicines also use fillers, but many times they use more common ones, or do not disclose the fillers they use, so many people do not even take them into consideration.

Name brand medications are more expensive for the same reason anything that carries a name brand is more expensive...you pay for the name. Take this test, and see for yourself. Next time you are in your local Wal Mart, Walgreens, or any drug store, pick up a name brand package of Extra Strength Tylenol, then pick up the store brand of extra strength acetaminophen. Compare the two labels. Look for the number of milligrams of the active ingredient acetaminophen. Chances are, the number is the same, if you picked up two extra strength bottles. Then, find the section that says inactive or other ingredients, and compare them. Chances are, the only differences that you will find are in the colors of dyes that are used in the processing of the pills.

You pay for the name brand, and some insurance companies will only cover generic drugs for this vary reason. Bottom line whenever you are paying for medications yourself, or you do not want to reach your insurance premium cap, go with the generic medication unless you have had a reaction to the generic medication, there is no good reason not to choose generics.
