Question:
Both Chinese and Indians classify foods as either hot or cold. Are the foods classified the same way?
According to Chinese belief, mangos, durians, ginger, tangerines and fried food are "hot"; mangosteens, oranges, salt and soups are "cold". Indians (in Ayurvedic medicine) also have a system for classifying foods as "hot" or "cold". Are there any foods that are classified as "hot" by one system but "cold" in the other system?
Answers:
Any tradition or set of beliefs that utilizes concepts of alchemy or the elements of earth, fire, air and water will probably hold some kind of similiar views on food and how they affect your body.
Those traditions are usually ones that contain a rich spiritual history.
