Answers:
If you are VERY sure it is a bladder infection, and not just irritation, Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim ( bactrim) is a sulfa drug that is prescribed for a UTI. I was prescribed SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 one tab twice daily ( evenly spaced 12 hrs apart) by mouth for 7 days. I get it once or twice a year and this clears it up for me when I can't beat it myself with lots of water. cranberry powder mixed with water ( no sugar ) Alka seltzer or otc AZO for pain. I know, UTI's are no fun, and I can truly sympathize with you. Mannose sugar did not help me. Stay clear of coffee, tea, alcohol or sugary foods or drinks. I get the sulfa drug over the net in a Canada Pharmacy without prescription because I know exactly what it is, and what helps me, and I have no meds coverage to speak of, so this is much cheaper way to go for me, not to mention convenient. Uti's are caused about 85 % of the time by E-coli ( from feces) getting into the urinary tract. (More women get them than men. ) Being very careful about bathroom habits can be helpful, as wearing loose clothing, urinating after intercourse, and cotton underwear. If it is a true bladder infection, you really need an anti-biotic, ( you don't want it to back up into the kidneys ) If it is an irritation, you might be able to beat it with the water, cranberry juice etc. As a preventive, a glass of cranberry juice taken in the morning and at night is enough to keep the bacteria under control. And up your water intake. Good luck.
